Congressman Franks introduced an amendment to study the strategic implications of Islamic doctrines in counterterrorism.Specifically it would have required "the Secretary of Defense to conduct strategic assessments of the use of violent or unorthodox Islamic religious doctrine to support extremist or terrorist messaging and justification."
Like a number of other conservative amendments, it was defeated with the complicity of Republicans. Here are the Republicans who joined with Democrats to vote it down.
